More than 150 people suffered from tick bites in Zhambyl region
Более 150 человек пострадали от укусов клещей в Жамбылской области 16.05.2017

Recently, a 60-year-old resident of the village of Zhayylma was hospitalized in the infectious department of the Central District Hospital with suspected CCHF disease in the Sarysu region.

According to the press service of the akim of the Zhambyl region, at a meeting chaired by the head of the region Karim Kokrekbaev, issues of the readiness of services for the prevention of CCHF, as well as the problems of anti-tick treatment of livestock and territories were discussed.

This year, in the zone of natural foci of CCHF, three times a year, areas with a total area of 3.9 thousand square kilometers, 21,298 households are subject to disinfestation, more than 598 thousand heads of cattle are vaccinated, Ospan Berdiyarov, head of the veterinary department of the Akimat of Zhambyl region, informed.

According to him, bathing livestock with the use of anti-tick drugs remains a problem. “Once upon a time, all farms in the region had baths and bathed sheep and goats twice a year. Today we have only 125 kupkas in the region, and only 34 are located in natural foci of CCHF. We sent samples of typical cups and showers to all districts. The heads of districts and farms are recommended to find funds for the repair and construction of stalls and showers for livestock,” Ospan Berdiyarov said.

According to Berik Zharkynbekov, head of the public health department, the number of registered cases of CCHF among people in the region is increasing every year. “In the last two years alone, the number of people seeking medical help for tick bites has increased 2.5 times,” he said. - In 2015, it was 600 people, in 2016 - over 1,470, and this year already 150 people. All of them are taken under medical supervision, there are no clinical signs of the disease.”

It was noted that this year in the zone of natural foci of CCHF in the Zhambyl region, more than 34 thousand ticks were collected and laboratory tested. Of the 10,000 specimens examined, 24 were found to be infected with CCHF viruses. “These individuals were collected on the territory of Talas and Sarysu regions. People became infected not only from a tick bite, but also while caring for pets,” said Berik Zharkynbekov.

“You don’t have to sit and wait for someone to get sick. It is necessary to carry out preventive work, to identify and treat sick animals in advance. Strict control is also needed for livestock imported from neighboring regions and countries,” Karim Kokrekbaev emphasized.

Since the first case of CCHF was registered in Zhambyl region in 1982, the area of the natural focus has increased 136 times - from 200 to 27.1 thousand sq. km.
