In the NCE laboratory in energy drinks, an excess of sodium benzoate was found
В лаборатории НЦЭ в энергетических напитках обнаружили превышение бензоат натрия 23.06.2022

During preventive control and supervision of product safety in the Kostanay region, non-alcoholic energy drinks were found on the shelves of stores with an excess of the content of the food additive sodium benzoate (E 211).

In the course of laboratory studies conducted by the branch of the Republican State Enterprise on the REM "National Center of Expertise" of the CSEC of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Kostanay region, the excess content of sodium benzoate was established in the following non-alcoholic energy carbonated drinks: "Flash up energy with caffeine and taurine" (163.3 mg / kg) and Monster Energy (173.72 mg/kg). These drinks are included in the register of non-conforming products.

Also, the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Control sent a notification to Rospotrebnadzor about taking the products of these manufacturers for enhanced laboratory control.

For the period from January to May 2022, 17 samples of soft drinks were tested at the NCE branch to determine the level of sodium benzoate.

Note that sodium benzoate is a food additive that belongs to the group of preservatives. It is used in the food industry to increase the shelf life and storage of products. However, an increase in the concentration of this preservative affects not only the taste properties of the product, but also poses a danger to human health.
