Strains of measles virus detected in the Republic of Kazakhstan belong to the highly pathogenic lines Kabul and Niger - NCE
Штаммы выявленного в РК вируса кори относятся к высоко-патогенным линиям Кабул и Нигер – НЦЭ 11.04.2019

Almaty April 11th. KazTAG - Strains of measles virus detected in Kazakhstan belong to the highly pathogenic lines Kabul and Niger, said Zabira Aushakhmetova, First Deputy Director General of the National Center for Expertise (NEC).

“Since we have an increase in the incidence of measles in late 2018 and early 2019, we carried out work to identify where this infection was brought from. The measles detected in our country at the genetic level corresponds to such microorganisms and viruses as Kabul and Nigeria. But this is a preliminary analysis, the research will be continued, ”Aushakhmetova said during a press tour on Thursday.

According to her, NCE began to study the biological properties of infectious diseases in 2015.

“For this, we have created a zonal virological laboratory in the city of Nur-Sultan, the materials that are found locally are transferred to this laboratory, and research is carried out there by sequencing. In 2019, a full-genome sequencer was purchased for the laboratory, research is faster on it, the decryption volume is wider, ”the speaker added.

Identification of the origin of the measles strain is necessary for better treatment and prevention of the disease.

“We pass the results of the research to the epidemiologists of the public health committee of the Ministry of Health, where they make certain decisions,” Aushakhmetova said.

According to the NCE, from the beginning of 2019 in Kazakhstan, the number of cases suspected of measles amounted to 5106, of which 4311 (85%) samples were positive.
